PRESIDENT'S REPORT
March 2010

The 2009 annual meeting of the Knee Society was held at the Sea Temple resort in Palm Cove immediately following the AOA ASM in Cairns last October. Our international guests were David Dejour from Lyon and Tom Minas from Boston. David’s authority on the patello-femoral joint is second to none, and his presentations were most stimulating and informative. Tom’s areas of research and expertise were reflected in his presentations on custom partial knee resurfacing, and ACI in degenerative knees. Both papers were intentionally innovative and controversial, and stimulated vigorous discussion. As usual, the standard of presentations from local members and fellows also maintained a very high standard, and all who attended agreed that it was another outstanding meeting of the Knee Society, with great camaraderie.

The 2010 meeting will precede the AOA ASM in Adelaide, and will be held at Mount Lofty House in the Adelaide Hills from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 October. Any surgeon with a particular interest in knee surgery is welcome to attend as a guest of an AKS member. If you would like to attend, but are not aware of a member who might sponsor your attendance, please contact our Secretary, Bruce Caldwell (see contact details below).

The AKS is currently active in commencing work with the NJRR to develop a national ACL reconstruction register. Watch this space.

The APOSSM will be meeting in Okinawa 2-4 July this year, and this is sure to be a most interesting and rewarding meeting. All knee surgeons should seriously consider attending. The Asia-Pacific region is a dynamic area of rapid growth in knee and sports surgery, and the standard of presentations is very high. I would love to see a large Australian contingent there.

Julian Feller has now completed his term as President, and I’m sure all members join me in thanking him for his most valuable contribution and excellent stewardship of the Society over the last two years.

President
