WELCOME to the website of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, the peak professional body for orthopaedic surgeons in Australia. AOA has recently released its Position Statement on Interaction with Medical Industry (download here), which clearly defines appropriate relationships between orthopaedic surgeons and medical device companies. The Position Statement recognises that collaborative relationships between members and industry are integral to the continued enhancement of patient care. The Statement ensures that such interactions are conducted in a transparent manner that upholds the highest professional and ethical standards. The Position Statement is the culmination of extensive consultation among Members of AOA. It will be regularly reviewed and Members are encouraged to provide feedback on the Statement and its practical implementation. AOA also welcomes comments or questions from industry and patients. The COE meeting on Hips, Fractures and Arthroplasty will be held on 5-7 August in Brisbane. Program and registration form have been sent to all members but are also downloadable at www.aoacoe.com. Application update 2010 selection applications have now been processed. Letters were sent out on 29 May 2009 to all applicants, advising whether or not they have been shortlisted for interview. Interviews will be conducted on 20 June 2009.
