AOA members can help develop the orthopaedic profession in Australia in various ways:

become involved in and contribute to committees and working parties addressing federal and state government health initiatives
participate in dicussion forums about areas of special interest such as rural surgery and IMGs
become training supervisors
contribute to education and training initiatives through regional training committees

AOA Fellows are entitled to apply for research funding through the AOA Research Foundation

AOA Fellows are entitled to apply to establish an AOA Accredited Fellowship or have an existing Fellowship accredited by AOA

The ABC Travelling Fellowship is a prestigious scholarship awarded biannually to an AOA member
Comprises a five-week tour of orthopaedic centres in North America, with six other orthopaedic surgeons from New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom
Offers the recipient an exceptional academic experience and is very highly regarded by all participating orthopaedic associations. The itinerary is arranged by the host association with expenses paid by the host
The ABC Fellow also attends the Annual Scientific Meetings of the American and Canadian Orthopaedic Associations and may be invited to present a paper on their
research at those meetings

AOA members can access a national network of volunteer orthopaedic surgeons for moral support during litigation
