FELLOWSHIP IN ARTHROPLASTY
SURGERY - This is only open to Australian trainees
Each year De Puy Australia, a Johnson & Johnson company,
offers two 6-month Fellowships in Arthroplasty Surgery at the Harvard Institute, Boston, USA.
One Fellowship is for the period 1 January to 30 June inclusive, and the other from 1 July to 31 December inclusive.

Fellowship Supervisors/Directors
Dr Thomas G Thornhill MD, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, is the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Richard D Scott MD, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, is an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.
The Position
This is a Research Fellowship Program and the successful candidate will be expected to achieve publications
in peer review journals and presentations at appropriate meetings.
The successful candidate will be able to observe surgery performed by the supervising surgeons of the Fellowship program,
Dr Thomas Thornhill and Dr Richard Scott. Implant systems in routine use include:
- PFC Hip
- PFC Sigma
- S-ROM Hip
The Award
Depuy Australia will provide a monthly income as well as a one-off stipend paid directly to the Fellow out of which all living costs must be paid.
DePuy will provide the cost of an economy airfare from Australia to Britain.

AUSTRALIAN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION RESEARCH
FELLOWSHIP
The Australian Orthopaedic Research Fellowship
is to promote research into clinical orthopaedics and basic science relevant to the practice of orthopaedics.
Application for this Fellowship may be made by Orthopaedic Fellows
and registered advanced orthopaedic trainees.
Applicants will be required:
(a) to have shown ability or promise of ability in research
(b) to have made suitable arrangements with an established investigator
under whose supervision the work is to be conducted, and
(c) To show that the proposed topic of research is acceptable
to the institution concerned.
The Fellowship is for 12 months and is normally tenable only
within Australia.
Salary: $50,000. Additional earnings are allowed within the
conditions of the Award.
The Fellowship is advertised in the December and April issues
of the AOA Bulletin.

American College of Surgeons
Since 1968, the American College of Surgeons has offered International Guest Scholarships to competent young surgeons from countries
other than the United States or Canada who have demonstrated strong interests and accomplishments in teaching and research. Applications are now being accepted for International Guest Scholarhsips
for the year 2009. The deadline for receipt of scholarship applications and all support documents is 1 July 2008.
Each scholarship offers a stipend of US$8000, participation in the Clinical Congress, and the expectation of visits to several North American clinical and research sites of the scholar's choice.
A mentor will be assigned to assist the scholar in planning his/her tour.
