The Surgical Education and Training (SET) Selection Regulations for the 2016 intake have now been published.

There are some notable changes to the regulations, based on the outcomes of the AOA Federal Training Committee (FTC) annual review of the SET selection process as follows:

  • The competency-based pathway for demonstrating eligibility has been discontinued.

  • Applicants will now be able to claim CV points for:

  • Successful completion of any masters that is relevant to the practice of orthopaedic surgery

  • Successful completion of any doctorate

  • Presentations personally delivered at internationally equivalent, national orthopaedic association meetings.

  • The regulations are presented in a new format to afford greater clarity to applicants' interpretation of the requirements.

As the SET Selection Regulations change on an annual basis, it is imperative that applicants read the 2015 regulations for the 2016 intake in detail.

Applicants are encouraged to review their application and documentary evidence with their surgical supervisor or mentor, prior to submitting.
