At the July 2015 meeting, following an extensive consultation period, the AOA Board approved four core strategies shaped by member priorities.
The core strategies of the 2016-2018 Strategic Plan fall into the following four areas:
- Education and Training
- Advocacy and Engagement
- Professional Standards and Research
- Asia Pacific.
For the first time, AOA has developed a Vision to guide the aspirations and ambitions of the organisation: “To be world-recognised for the advancement of orthopaedic surgery through education, professional standards and advocacy.”
The Statement of Purpose has been refined to reinforce the importance of patients and community interest in all that members do in practicing the profession: “AOA is the peak professional body in Australia for advancing excellence of orthopaedic practice in the interests of patients and the community, and in the training of surgeons to world-class standards”
The 2016-2018 strategic plan (PDF) outlines the aims, objectives and a milestone plan of action over the next three years. Progress against deliverables outlined in the strategic plan is reported at each Board meeting.
