AOA’s 2016 Young Leaders Forum took place 28 and 29 October, and was well received by the 18 delegates that travelled from across the country to take part.

Revitalising and reenergising the Forum is a core component of AOA’s Strategic Plan for advocacy and engagement, representing the Association’s commitment to tapping into the energy, skills and expertise of its younger members.

The Forum focused on leadership theories and tools and explored differences in leadership in different environments. Delegates enjoyed presentations by guest speakers and hypothetical case studies, and had the opportunity to network with colleagues from across Australia.

Planning is already underway for the 2017 Young Leaders Forum, which will take place next November. Building on the success of this year’s Forum, preparations will incorporate feedback from this year’s delegates, which was positive and constructive, including requests for more time for discussion of the big issues facing AOA and young orthopaedic surgeons, and for not-for-profit perspectives on leadership and success.

Reflections on the experience written by delegates will feature in the next issue of the AOA Bulletin.
